The Rockwood Summit Jazz Ensemble is a highly respected group of musicians that offers students at Rockwood Summit High School the chance to explore the exciting world of jazz music. Led by director Mr. Loui, the Jazz Ensemble meets four mornings a week during Zero Hour to rehearse and hone their skills.
The Jazz Ensemble is open to students with director approval who play saxophone, trombone, trumpet, bass, guitar, piano, or drum set.. Students in this group perform a wide range of jazz music styles, including swing, rock, and Latin jazz. Students in the Jazz Ensemble are exposed to a wide range of jazz music theory and history. All students in the ensemble work on improvisation and listening skills
The Jazz Ensemble regularly performs at school concerts, jazz festivals, and community events. The group has won numerous awards and accolades, including placing in the TOP 3 at the prestigious Jazz In the Meadows festival in Chicago, IL. The Rockwood Summit Jazz Ensemble is a testament to the power of music education and the passion and dedication of its members. Through their hard work and commitment, students in this group are able to achieve a high level of musical excellence and develop skills that will serve them well beyond high school.
